HIGH SCHOOL VS. COLLEGE

High School vs. College
High school and college are very dissimilar. There are the main differences and then
there are differences that aren't very distinct. These differences include homework,
teacher-student relationships, and attendance policies. In this paper I will discuss the
major and minor differences between high school and college. I will also explain why
responsibility is a very important factor in high school and college.
In high school most teachers will let you turn in your homework late if you give them an
excuse such as, "I forgot it at home" or "It's in my locker." In college if you give your
professor one of these excuses they will say, "Too bad." There are also a lot more tests
in high school. Usually, there is a test every week or two. Although there are more
tests, the work is not as hard. Most of the time you will read aloud in class or go over
every point of the homework so that there is no question of what you have to do.
Teachers in college for the most part don't really care whether or not you are in class.
All it means is that if you are not there, you are going to get a failing grade if it
happens too often. Missing too many classes will cause the teacher to withdraw you from
the class, resulting in a failing grade. If you do it the smart way you would withdraw
from the class yourself because then it would have no negative effect on your overall
G.P.A. In high school the teachers are always on you about attendance. If you miss too
many days you can fail. If you are not in class they want to know why. They also want a
note from your parents excusing you from class. Some schools even want your parents to
call you in sick if you are not going to be there. If you do not have a note they can
write you up for an unauthorized absence and, give you a detention.
In college you have greater responsibility. You are an adult, and they expect you to act
like one. The teachers expect you to except the consequences if you do not do the
required work. In high school the teacher would probably call your parents, and let them
know that you aren't doing what you are supposed to do. In college you have to be
responsible to succeed. It's all up to you.
The main difference between high school and college is the responsibility factor. The
differences all point out one thing. Students are expected to mature over four years.
They want the students by the time they reach college to know what they have to do to
make it. The high school teachers teach them responsibility by making them do their
homework and monitoring their attendance. Teachers are trying to teach responsibility to
high school students, and college students are expected to have it.
